TCX X-Blend Waterproof Boots - Brown

These are currently our favourite boots! In our opinion, the best looking boot of its kind and offering a really good level of protection. We imagine ourselves wearing a pair of these with a Furygan jacket and a pair of Macna or Furygan armoured jeans (see bottom of page for the complete outfit), whilst cruising around on the new Ducati Scrambler. Okay, enough dreaming, back to the detail.

New for the 2015 range, TCX X-Blend boots are a CE Certified, waterproof urban boot with an upper made from full grain, vintage-look leather, plus a waterproof inner membrane. To keep your feet protected, they possess internal polyurethane protection to the heel and toes. TCX X-Blend boots use TCX's Comfort Fit System, so that you can wear these boots for long periods, on and off your bike. Carried out by hand, not machine, this technique allows the boot to be shaped on a mould that accurately reproduces the anatomy of the foot, making the boot exceptionally comfortable over longer periods.

The X-Blend has a new high wear-resistant rubber sole so you'll get plenty of wear out of them before they need replacing. These motorcycle boots look great with a pair of armoured jeans or textiles and are secured with laces. They're available in UK sizes 5.5 to 12, EU 39 to 47 with free UK delivery, plus we also offer worldwide shipping at very competitive shipping rates. Right then, where did I park my Duc?

TCX Boots offers numerous styles of riding footwear in its Urban Line, from slick sneaker-inspired options down to casual Converse-styled shoes. But if shoes aren’t your thing, there’s also a selection of no-nonsense, full-grain leather boots in the Urban Line as well. On one end, there’s the Urban City, a stylish choice that could pass as a dress shoe in a pinch. On the other end there’s the TCX X-Blend Waterproof boot, which looks like it’d be more at home in the lumber mill or out in the mountains cutting trees.

I’ve been wearing a pair of the TCX X-Blend boots daily for a few months now. The X-Blend is available in brown or black leather, and we opted for the brown, which comes out of the box with a distressed, worn-in look that is pretty sharp and exactly as advertised. Reinforcements in the toe and heel along with ankle cups provide impact protection and a lacing closure system cinches the boots tight above the ankle. The thick rubber sole is sturdy and the grooved tread pattern provides ample grip on the pegs and road. There are shift pads on the toes of both the left and right boots, and an interior waterproof liner ensures protection from the elements.

As a size 10.5, I chose an 11 since half sizes aren’t available, but fit is still nice and snug around the ankle and middle of the foot with just a little room extending past the toes. Like most work boots I’ve worn in the past, the X-Blends do take a bit of time to break in. The inner sole is slightly rigid to start and the inside left ankle cup hit a pressure point on my ankle. This made for some uncomfortable going as the boots wore in, but after a week’s worth of use the problems were gone.

On the bike the X-Blends are not bulky or cumbersome when working the shift lever or rear brake. The rubber sole grips reliably when the pavement is wet or slick with debris and the boot’s waterproof lining lives up to its claim, at least during the light downpours we encountered. I’ve also picked up the X-Blends more often than any other casual riding boot I’ve tried for off-bike wear. The vintage, worker-casual look is spot on for my jeans and T-shirt life I live on a day-to-day basis.

At $219.99 (£149.99), the TCX X-Blend Waterproof boots are comparable to the prices of the work boots they emulate. The motorcycle-focused amenities make them great on the bike and the broke-in comfort they offer make them fantastic off the bike. No frills along with quality materials and construction and the promise of ripening even more with age. Sounds like a good deal to me. (Review reproduced from
